LG Rewrites the OLED Playbook for 2025

LG has made the boldest move in OLED technology in years. The company's 2025 flagship G5 series completely abandons the Micro Lens Array (MLA) technology that powered the G4, replacing it with an entirely new four-stack Primary RGB Tandem OLED structure. The result is a TV that LG calls "the brightest TV in the market" — and the measured numbers back that claim up.

What Is Four-Stack Tandem OLED?

The new panel architecture stacks four organic light-emitting layers: red and green layers sandwiched between two blue layers. This four-stack structure dramatically increases light output while improving energy efficiency. The separation of red, green, and blue elements also enhances color purity, delivering a meaningful color brightness increase over last year's MLA panels. Perhaps most importantly, the extra OLED layer means MLA is no longer needed — a significant simplification of the manufacturing process.

Brightness That Changes the Game

The G5 achieves a staggering 4,000-nit peak brightness — a 33% improvement over the G4's third-generation MLA panel. Full-screen sustained brightness has jumped 40% compared to the previous generation, a metric that matters enormously for HDR movie watching and daytime viewing. In professional measurements, the G5 hits 2,268 nits on a 10% HDR window in Filmmaker Mode, putting it neck-and-neck with Samsung's flagship S95F QD-OLED.

The Complete 2025 Lineup

The four-stack Tandem OLED technology powers the flagship G5 and wireless M5 models, available in sizes from 55 to 97 inches. The G5 also supports 4K at 165Hz with Dolby Vision gaming, FreeSync Premium, and G-Sync — making it a top choice for gamers. Below the G5, the C5 uses an upgraded Alpha 9 processor with a slight brightness bump, while the B5 offers a 120Hz OLED panel at a more accessible price point.

Pricing and Availability

The G5 65-inch carries an MSRP of $3,399, with the 55-inch at $2,499, 77-inch at $4,499, and a massive 97-inch at $24,999. The C5 starts at $1,399 for the 42-inch model. Both the G5 and C5 are available now, with the B5 following in the coming months. LG is offering free wall-mounting or stand setup along with a $200 soundbar discount for orders placed through LG.com.
